New Delhi: India is getting richer! At least a few people are. The Forbes' Magazines billionnaire list for 2007 has as many as 36 Indians. That's the second most number after the United States.
As many as 14 Indians have joined the exclusive club. Steel baron Laxmi Mittal is fifth on the list. The Reliance family may have fallen apart but their riches are intact as both Mukesh and Anil Ambani are in the top 20, at 14th and 18th spot respectively.
Also in the list are Wipro Chief Azim Premji, Bharti Group Chief Sunil Bharti Mittal, Aditya Birla Group's Chairman Kumar Birla, DLF's K P Singh and Unitech's Ramesh Chandra.
Forbes CEO Steve Forbes says that the list is all about the the global nature of this economic boom.
"What the list underscores this year is the global nature of this economic boom, its not just Europe, Japan or the Pacific Rim. You have Serbia joining the ranks of billionaires, many Turkish billionaires, Spanish billionaires, this is becoming much more widespread, truly a global list," says Steve Forbes.
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gtaes continues to perch at the top for the 13th consecutive year. Second on the list is Berkshire Hathaway Inc.'s Warren Buffet followed by Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim.
Women however comprise a mere one percent of the list, proving once again that it's still essentially an all-boys club.
