Sriharikota: It’s official now. India's first mission to the moon Chandryaan 1 will be launched on October 22.
This impressive rocket PSLV C-11 will launch India’s first unmanned moon mission Chandrayaan 1 from Sriharikota on October 22 morning.
Associate Director Satish Dhawan space Centre Dr M Y S Prasad said that time for the targeted launch has been fixed. Count down would begin 50 hours before the launch.
Chandrayaan would orbit the moon for about 2 years, mapping the topography and mineral content of the lunar soil.
It carries a total of 11 payloads. Six from India and rest from the US and Europe.
It also carries a lunar probe which would land on the moon.
Director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre Dr H C Dathan felt that the project was a filling experience and said that the mood of the people involved in the project was that of excitement and self motivation.
The launch is India's first big step in outer space. A manned moon mission is next.
The Chandrayaan launch would be around 6:20 in the morning of October 22; however, the weather conditions will be considered.
Ninety nine per cent of the integration and testing is complete and the count down has begun for India's historic tryst with the moon.
The success of Chandrayan1 will catapult India among the top five space sharing countries of the world.
It has grabbed world attention with even American and European space agencies sending instruments on this craft to search for water and minerals on the moon.
Dathan says, “Next we have a plan for human space flight. Project report is ready. We need to have the third launch pad.for the human capsule.” Project has already been started and within 7 years they are planning for that.
However, even as the launch pad is getting set, there is fear that the monsoon may play truant but fears of a cyclone apart, Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) is already putting together plans on its next dream – sending a man into space.
