New Delhi: Ahead of the 10th anniversary of the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests, India is breathing fire and is set to test-fire the nuclear-capable Agni-III missile on Wednesday.
The Agni-III is India's most potent nuclear-armed missile with a range of about 3,500 km and is meant to fulfill India's deterrence requirements with respect to China.
This will be the third test-firing of the Agni-III. The first one in 2006 was a failure, and a heat shield defect had to be rectified before the successful second launch in 2007.
If the Wednesday test is successful, the Agni-III could be inducted into the Indian armed forces by 2010.
This missile will add depth and credibility to India's capability to deter a nuclear adversary.
