India urban conference in Mysore

BANGALORE: Keeping in mind the incessant growth of population in the country which is expected to double by the next 30 years, the second India Urban Conference (IUC) 2011: ‘Evidence and Experience’ will be held from November 17-21 in Mysore.

The event is jointly hosted by Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), Janagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, and the South Asian Studies Council, Yale University.

Announcing the event, here on Wednesday, Unna V Govindarajan, research coordinator at Janaagraha, said, “Through this conference we aim to bring together nearly 1000 urban stakeholders, inclusive of policy makers, academics, students, civil society and practitioners, and industry stakeholders from across the country.”

Aromar Revi, director, IIHS said, “Debates will be focused on re-framing our notions of the rural and urban, relationships between the citizen, the city, state and centre, alternative trajectories of urban growth and creation of a new generation of change makers, entrepreneurs and scholars who make all of this possible. The IUC will for the first time create an open national platform for such debate.”

November 22,” Govindarajan added.
