India wants Swiss support for N-deal

New Delhi: India is sending an envoy to Switzerland to win support for the nuclear deal.

This was confirmed by the visiting Swiss President Calmy Rey in Delhi today, that the envoy will be sent at the earliest.

Switzerland is a key member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group and is also on the board of governors of the IAEA.

But Berne has serious doubts about the impact the Indo-US nuclear deal could have on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

"I explained the position of Switzerland as concerned in the proliferation of nuclear weapons, we are engaged against. We are member of the NPT, we are member of the board of governors of the Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, and we will take a position about this agreement," assured Calmy Rey.

"For the time being, we are very happy that the Prime Minister accepted to send a nuclear expert of India to Switzerland to explain your position," President Micheline Calmy Rey.
