New Delhi: Relief for families of captain Jaspreet Chawla and chief officer Syam Chetan, the sailors of Hongkong supertanker Hebei Spirit who jailed in South Korea had a free and unrestricted conversation with their families after they were released on bail on Thursday.
The South Korean Supreme court granted bail to the Indian sailors who were jailed for more than a year in the country's worst oil spill
“We will not sit quietly on our laurels, we need to fight the kind of injustice Sea farerers are facing,” says President, National Seafarerers Association.
But for three other Indian families, the struggle has only begun. Captain Theresiya Fernando, engineer Sarvanan and manager Antony on board a Kenyan vessel were taken hostage by Somalian pirates off the northern coast of Kenya ten days ago.
“There is no patrolling that goes on this part now. India as you know is well beyond the Arabian area. But we will take whatever action is required to see that they get released at the earliest,” says Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sureesh Mehta.
Saravanan's family says they have also tried contacting the shipping company managers but were told the company could not afford the ransom.
The hijack comes barely two months after Stolt Valor, a Japanese shipping vessel carrying 18 Indian sailors, was released by the Somalian pirates.
