New Delhi: They say great wine is adorned by great art. For years legends like Picasso, Dali, Miro and Chagall turned wine labels into masterpieces by lending their creations to bottles.
And now Sanjoy Ghosh has joined that elite league by becoming the first Indian artist to design labels for an international wine company.
Sanjoy says, “I am embarrassed to find my name in the same paragraph of legions like Picasso, Miro, Chagall.”
Its not just names like MF Hussein and Tayyab Mehta who are making their mark in international market.
More and more artists are now making their presence felt in their own unique ways. One of which is having your painting on an Italian wine bottle.
Sanjoy's art labels will adorn Vin Opera's Italian Montalcinos, Barbera and Amarone wines.
Could this be the beginning of a new trend for Indian art?
Meera says, Its gonna be a new concept called wine by design which is going to catch up in India.
Indians will have their own gallery of wine labels by Indian artists and it may go international as well.
On display are other paintings by Ghosh who lost the use of his hands and feet to polio when he was five.
He recovered 2 years later to find that while his right arm was paralysed for ever, he could still pursue his dream.
