Click to play videoLondon/New Delhi: Indian doctors in UK have won a significant legal battle in the High Court of Justice in Britain.
The British government has conceded to their demand to withdraw a rule that would have excluded them from job interviews if they did not possess visas beyond August 1, 2007.
The Health Department had issued the controversial rule on February 23rd, sparking off widespread protests.
The High Court of Justice began hearing an appeal filed by the British Association for People of Indian Origin against the rule on Thursday.
BAPIO had secured an emergency injunction on March 4, staying the directive that non-EU doctors whose visas expire on August 1, 2007, would not be considered for recruitment interviews to the National Health Service.
This comes days after a new order issued by UK’s Department of Health that said even those doctors who don't have visas beyond August 1, 2007, will be eligible for this year's recruitment to the National Health Service.
