New Delhi: The Indian eves put up a terrific display of tennis in their Fed Cup Asia-Oceania Zone qualifiers against New Zealand on Wednesday, coming back to win 2-1 in Christchurch on Wednesday.

Sikha Uberoi's defeat meant the pressure was on Sunitha Rao, a late replacement for Hyderabadi sensation Sania Mirza, who rose up to the occasion to take her singles tie 6-4, 6-2 against Leanne Baker.

The spirits were certainly high in the Indian camp after drawing parity, as the pair of Uberoi and Rao then secured a fiercely contested doubles tie 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 to oust the hosts.

India had ealier beaten Kazakhstan and Jordan in their previous rounds.

The Indian eves now square up against Chinese Taipei in their last Group B tie on Thursday, which wll also determine the final group qualifiers to be played on April 21.

India and Taipei go into the tie without being beaten in their previous rounds. The winner goes out to play in the world play-offs in July.
