Indian job scenario untouched by US recession

New Delhi: US recession may have hit the global economy, but the good news is that it hasn't hit the job industry in India.

In fact, India is the place to be if you are looking for a job this year, that's according to a Global Employment Outlook Survey by Manpower.

Layoffs seems to be the order of the day, but the job scenario in India is not so bad. The latest global manpower survey shows India will create more jobs in the next three months, more than other countries.

Managing Director, Manpower India Naresh Malhan says, "The times may seem challenging but the employment scenario in the country is not as gloomy as the rest of the world and according to the survey, India will be one of the actively hiring nations for Q1 09.''

It is another matter that the hiring growth will be the lowest since 2005. However, it is the best in the Asia Pacific region with 19 per cent growth.

Globally, Indian employers report the second strongest hiring intentions.

Out of the 3,600 employers surveyed in India, a whopping 63 per cent said there will be no change in the hiring intent in the first quarter of 2009, 22 per cent rather see an increase in the hiring and just 4 per cent predict a decrease.

Mining, construction and services sector will see more job opportunities. Meanwhile, wholesale and retail will be the worst hit.

Malhan says, ''The survey released on Wednesday revealed that the pace of hiring is set to slow further in the first quarter of 2009, most notably in Singapore, Ireland, Spain and Italy.''

So while Dalal street may be on the ‘sell’ mode these days, on jobstreet however, the 'For Hire’ sign is still very much on.
