New Delhi: Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed on Tuesday said Indian Muslims have failed to make themselves noticed not only in the country but also outside it, underlining it as the reason why US President Barack Obama made no mention of them while expressing his desire to speak to Muslims all over the world.
"US President Barack Obama had made no mention about the Indian Muslims when he (after taking charge) had desired to speak to Muslims of other parts of the world. Names of Saudi Arab, Palestine, Africa had come and he had even said that seven million Muslims are in America but there came no mention of Indian Muslims. Why? Because, this is the truth," Khursheed said.
"He (Barack Obama) understands India but does not understand Muslims of India. Muslims of India have not only failed to show their existence in India but also in the outer world," he added.
The Minister was addressing a function organised by the Confederation of Muslim Educational Institute in India to facilitate Muslim leaders who have become members of Parliament after winning 15th Lok Sabha elections from various parts of the country.
Khursheed assured that his ministry will take all possible steps for the upliftment of Muslims along with other minority communities.
He said implementation of the recommendations made by the Sachar Committee was the best step for the development of Muslims in the country.
