Click to play videoNew Delhi: Afghan abductors have freed an Indian and his Nepalese colleague after keeping them captive for 27 days.
Mohammad Naeem of Mangalore and his colleague K B Gurung were kidnapped near the Afghan-Iran border on April 21.
Naeem, who works for a Dubai-based company providing logistic support to security camps, was to return home in June. In fact, he was the sole bread winner for his family, which also includes three children. His wife and ageing parents had been making appeals for his release ever since.
The kidnappers are being described as a criminal gang operating in the area.
Naeem is said to be in good health and talked to his family in Mangalore on Sunday morning after his release. His father-in-law, Muneer Ahmed, said Naeem is expected home in another two or three days.
“We are very happy and we thank God that our prayers, and the efforts of all those who worked on our behalf, were successful,” Ahmed said.
Five people have been arrested in connection with the abductions which have been blamed on a criminal gang and not the militarily-active Taliban.
