New Delhi: The hunt is on for a symbol for the Indian rupee. Like the dollar, the pound and the yen; the Indian rupee too will now have an internationally recognised symbol.
The Ministry of Finance has launched a nationwide competition for designing the symbol. Students of all major art colleges are trying their hand - their only restriction - the symbol should be applicable to the standard keyboard. As the deadline of April 15 approaches, the enthusiasm is building up.
The competition is tough but with a prize money of Rs 2,50,000 for the winner and Rs 25,000 for the top five entries makes the hard work worth it. A seven-member jury from art institutes, Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India will select the winner. So here are some advices from the experts themselves.
“We will be judging on the basis of the design, the originality, depiction of Indian culture etc,” says chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi, Ashok Vajpeyi.
