New Delhi: Two Indians have been detained in South Korea for more than eight months.
Captain Jaspreet Singh Chawla and Chief Officer Syam Chetan are in custody even though a court has ordered their release, saying that there was insuffient evidence to convict them.
Now, though the local court has declared them innocent, the authorities have extended their exit ban.
Captain Chawla and Chief Officer Chetan were held for violating South Korean pollution laws after their crude oil tanker was hit by a Samsung Heavy industries Crane Barge, causing South Korea's worst oil spill ever.
Three Korean nationals, who were operating the crane barge which hit the crude oil tanker, were given the maximum sentence for pollution - three years rigourous imprisonment.
