Soldiers' deaths: Lance Naik Hemraj, Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh's families shattered

New Delhi: The bodies of the two Indian soldiers allegedly killed by Pakistan Army troops in Poonch were brought to Delhi on Wednesday. One of them, Lance Naik Hemraj was from Mathura and was cremated with state honours as his family gathered, stricken with grief. Meanwhile, the body of Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh has been taken to Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh. Singh is survived by his wife and a four-month-old son. His funeral is likely to take place on Thursday.

The two families were brought together by a tragedy that is beyond comprehension. In Sidhi, Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh's family was numbed by shock and was preparing for his cremation.

His cousin Rajnatrayan Singh said, "I myself have retired from the armed forces. There is no question of friendship with Pakistan. Till when can we keep shedding our soldier's blood?"

The two families have no choice but to seek comfort in the fact that their loved ones laid their lives down in the service of the nation.

In Mathura, another family was in shock and grief as Lance Naik Hemraj's body was brought like Sudhakar Singh's wrapped in the tricolour.
