Bhubaneswar: IT giant Intel has charged its former employee, an Indian engineer of stealing company secrets. His parents in Orissa say he is being unnecessarily harassed in a trade dispute between two international software giants.
Until recently, Biswamohan Pani's elderly parents took pride in their son working in the US. But, now Satyaprabha and Brundaban Pani want him back in India at any cost.
Their son, Biswamohan has been charged by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) of stealing trade secrets from software giant Intel.
Biswamohan who is now employed by Advanced Micro Devices was earlier working with Intel.
"When I went to the US to meet my son a few years back I thought that the place was treating him well, but now they are torturing him. My son is innocent I should have never sent him there," said Biswamohan's mother Satyaprabha.
The FBI opened the case after they raided his home and found design plans for processor chips.
Biswamohan tells CNN-IBN the design files were meant to help his wife who still works with Intel and were not intended for sale.
"I don't know what to do. My son is a very brilliant person and a good soul. He can never do this. I plead the Indian Govt to please help us in getting back our son," said his father Brundaban.
Meanwhile, Biswamohan hasn't been arrested. But he has surrendered his passport to the US authorities. His case is being tried at a district court in Boston.
His elderly and ailing parents are yet to fully know the allegations made against their son in US. But, what they do firmly believe that their son is innocent and he should be sent back to India as soon as possible.
