New Delhi: Tennis star Sania Mirza is now Doctor Sania Mirza. The 22-year-old was conferred with a 'Doctor of Letters' (Honoris Causa) by the MGR Educational and Research Institute University in Chennai on Thursday night.
Sania was honoured with the degree for her achievements in tennis.
"I think my first ambition as a kid was to be a doctor. I felt that way for quite a while," said Sania about her childhood dreams.
''I am not looking for anything right now. My top priority now is to get back into best shape. I have been training hard in the off-season camp in Bangalore,'' she said.
She said her aim was to make it to the top 10 in the world.
''Training with Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna helps a lot. One thing I have learnt in life is to live the moment and now I am going to enjoy my Doctorate,'' she said, adding, ''I think I have a few more years left in me to prove that I am capable making it to top-10.''
But the highest ranked Indian women's player has not had a good 2008 and is now ranked 101 in the WTA list.
