New Delhi: Almost a year and a half after its launch, the women's professional golf tour is making steady progress.
But competition notwithstanding, top Indian woman golfer Irina Brar continues to dominate.
For the past five years, Brar hasn't allowed anyone to snatch the top spot in the women's rankings table away from her.
No wonder, expectations have been high, ever since she decided to turn pro and she hasn't disappointed.
After winning the fifth leg of the tour by beating Parnita Garewal by five strokes, she has her eyes set on the Asian tour now.
"I am flattening my swing a bit because I am going to play with back tees and you need all the back swing that you need to get. I am generally here all day working on all aspects of my game. As a pro it is a full time job," Brar says.
A few months after the women's golf tour kicked off in India, what excites the golfers most is the Indian Open which they think can give them all the exposure.
"There is the pressure factor. It is only the girls playing and with all the top golfers here, it is going to have a much better standard than what it has been in the last five events," Parnita Garewal says.
Roping in DLF as the sponsor means, the women's tour now carries a prize purse of Rs 9 lakh with each event carrying a prize tag of Rs 1.5 lakh.
And to make things more competitive, the top four women players on the money list have been promised an exemption in the lucrative Indian Open.
