Melbourne: Scores of Indian students were out in the streets of Sydney demanding strict action against the perpetrators of the racial violence in Australia.
But within hours of Sydney's peaceful rally another shocking case was reported in Melbourne. Three cars of Indian students were doused with petrol and torched victims say it was a deliberate attack by a drunken group to target the Indians.
“It is showing that it was a racial attack. They saw we are turbaned and they particularly chose my car out of so many parked cars,” says a victim Kamalpreet.
The Victorian police have denied any racial motive behind this latest attack. This has left the Indian student community in a tizzy.
“What we want is that police must take pr-active steps,” says an Indian student.
So, finally the Indian student community has now resorted to self defense. To deter any further violence the students gather in groups late in the night at the Melbourne subway station.
“The police are not doing anything over here for their protection so we all are here together and we are going to protect our Indian students here,” say students.
