Doha: The Indian women did the nation proud once again, by finishing first in the 4x400 metre women's relay. The quartet of Sati Geetha, Pinki Pramanik, Chitra Kulathummuriyil and Manjeet Kaur came in from behind to win the gold.
Manjeet Kaur, who also won the silver at the individual 400 metres a few days ago, said: "It was a little cold. But we were confident of winning the gold."
K Chitra, another member of the Indian team, said: "We have been practising for months. It was a good day for us and we won the gold."
In the corresponding men's event, the Indian quartet came in second at the Khalifa stadium. Bhupinder Singh, Binu Mathew, Joseph Abraham and A B Thanikkal finished in three minutes and 6.65 seconds.
Binu Mathew spoke of their feat as well. "Today was really fantastic race. All the four members ran very well, which helped us win the medal. Actually we expected a gold, but due to some mistake between the first and the second runner, otherwise we were on course for a gold medal. Nonetheless, we are happy to have bagged the silver medal.
