Mumbai: Miss World Runner up I, India's Parvathy Omanakuttan arrived in Mumbai early Wednesday morning to a rousing welcome.
Crowds cheered as Parvathy stepped out of the arriving crowds. The 21-year-old originally hails from Kottayam in Kerala. She missed the Miss World title by a whisker to the Russian beauty Kseniya Sukhinova on December 13.
Parvathy is the first Indian contestant to win a title at the pageant since Priyanka Chopra was crowned Miss world in 2000.
There had been some controversy after a channel reported that Parvathy complained of foul play in the way the title was decided in Johannesburg. That was soon followed by a declaration by Omnakuttan saying that she had been misquoted.
Though many Indian s hoped and expected for her to win, there was elation as she won the title next best to the coveted crown.
