There have been quite a few changes made to the team, a new coach for instance. But the results have just not come.
It's 2007. So it's time for some new starts. Indian football may have been on a downward spiral in the international circuit, but the domestic version is ready to kickstart a brand new season.
This will be the 11th edition of the National Football League and an increase in its standards will go a long way in boosting the game in India. But at the moment it is time to take the positives ahead from a lacklustre year left behind.
All India Football Federation chief Priyaranjan Dasmunsi says, "Football has got a market economy support in India. While everything used to go to cricket and tennis, some face has come towards football."
India is ranked as low as 157th in FIFA, which clearly indicates the sorry state of affairs that Indian football is in.
"I told you what the mystery is of the FIFA Coca Cola Rankings. If we could havce played more international matches, our raking would have improved," Dasmunsi adds.
Amidst all this India has been holding talks with Brazil, which may result in some sort of collaboration.
"Discussion is a joint cooperation between the two - training, exchange. Well, I am following it with the Brazilian football federation and while my meeting with the Brazilian ambassador is over, hopefully I will be going there also," Dasmunsi says.
So as Priyaranjan Dasmunsi tries to win Brazilian authorities to help Indian football, it is the domestic season that will remain a true indicator of things to come.
