Mumbai: Bollywood historical drama Eklavya is out of the Oscar race.
The Amitabh Bachchan starrer which was India's official and controversial entry for the prestigious awards, is now out of the Best Foreign Film award category.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra's ambitious drama failed to impress the judges and make it to the next round.
From the 63 foreign language films considered, the nine films that have been chosen are:
- Austrian film The Counterfeiters
- Brazil's The Year My Parents Went on Vacation
- Canada's critically-acclaimed Days of Darkness
- Israeli entry Beaufort
- Serbia's The Trap
Films from Kazakhstan, Poland, Russia and Italy have also been shortlisted in the Best Foreign Film category.
The nominations will be formally announced on 22 January at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in California.
