India-Sri Lanka match rained out

Colombo: The three-match Unitech Cup One-Day series between India and Sri Lanka seems jinxed. Heavy rains have made sure that the teams have not seen much competitive cricket for the past one week.

Unitech Cup was initially a tri-series with South Africa as the third team but after a bomb blast in Colombo on Monday the Proteas pulled out citing security reasons.

After their withdrawal India agreed to play a three-match limited overs series but bad weather in the Emerald Isle has made sure that even after landing in Colombo more than a week ago the men in blue have had just 3.4 overs of competitive play.

On Friday the match being played at the Sinhalese Sports Club was called off after just 3.4 over due to bad light and heavy rains.

India were batting on 11 without any loss after skipper Rahul Dravid had won the toss and decided to bat first. Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar had opened the innings and were on nine and two respectively.

However, the sun was shining bright on Saturday morning and the prospects of the first match of the Unitech Cup resuming rose. But that was soon washed away as it started raining around 1030 hrs local time (+5:30 GMT).

Umpires Billy Bowden and Asoka de Silva decided to call off the match at 1130 hrs local time, as there was no let up in the rains.

India have chosen to go in with five bowlers that include three seamers and two spinners.
