Johannesburg: Faf du Plessis will sit out in South Africa's final two one-dayers against Pakistan and the first four weeks of the Indian Premier League with a back injury.
South Africa manager Mohammed Moosajee says the batsman needs a six-week rest because of pain and inflammation in his lower back and will spend time in an oxygen chamber to help his recovery.
Du Plessis will miss the fourth and fifth ODIs against Pakistan on Thursday and Sunday and the first month of the IPL for his Chennai Super Kings team. Moosajee says he will be fit for the latter stages of the IPL in preparation for the Champions Trophy in England in June.
