Injury, fever led to poor jump: Anju

Anju Bobby George bagged the silver in the long jump competition at the XVth Asian Games in Doha on Sunday. The athlete spoke to CNN-IBN's Digvijay Singh Deo after winning the medal. She said that her performance was not up to the mark because of injury and fever.

Digvijay Singh Deo: Anju you won the gold last time. But this season hasn’t been the best for you. Are you happy with your performance?

Anju Bobby George: This year I was not taking part in many competitions because of injury. When I came here I was doing good in training. My jumps were good. But all of a sudden I got fever still I tried my best. There was some problem with my run-up and so I couldn't do that much.

Digvijay Singh Deo:What were you telling yourself. You were just looking at Bobby and figuring out what to do?

Anju Bobby George: He can tell me what mistakes I am making and what are the things that I am doing right. In athletics we need speed and reaction. But when you have fever you cannot give your best. Anyway last time I took gold but this time it is only silver.

Digvijay Singh Deo: Seeing the conditions the last jump must have put a lot of pressure on you?

Anju Bobby George: No we face the same situation in all the competitions. I was trying to do better.

Digvijay Singh Deo: What are your plans now? Your name is there in the triple jump list too but seeing the fever are you going to take it cool.

Anju Bobby George: I will decide tomorrow. I have severe back pain and headache. We will decide tomorrow.
