Horror house looks like 'butcher shop'

Noida (Uttar Pradesh): Three days after the first skeletal remains of 17 children were recovered from a drain beside a Sector 31 house in Noida, a sneak peek inside the house on Monday produced some gruesome details about the alleged serial killings. The parents of some of the victims, who had gone inside the house, brought back stories of blood and gore.

The man, Shyam, told CNN-IBN that the house almost resembled a butcher's shop with blood spattered all over the place and belongings of the child victims strewn all around.

Shyam was among a group of parents of the victims who were allowed to enter the house on Monday. In the first-ever account about what is inside the house, Shyam narrated horrific details.

"There is a bed inside. The kids were killed there. The bed was soaked in blood. They were killed like animals. There were knives and blades in the kitchen. There were other items like bags, I-cards, shoes lying here and there. My daughter was there too. She had been missing since 2004," he said.

Shyam said the businessman had kept expensive liqour in his house.

Meanwhile, the residents of Nithari village exploded with rage yet again on Monday. They clashed with the police when the men in uniform tried to bar their entry into the horror house in Sector 31. The police retaliated in equal measure.

Police presence has since been beefed up all over the area. The road leading up to the house of the accused has been blocked. Police restricted the entry of the media on Monday morning, further fuelling suspicions and angering the locals.

The womenfolk of the village broke through the police cordon and women police officers were seen beating them up. Villagers pelted stones and attacked policemen stationed outside the house. A woman was among the people who faced police wrath.

People from other places of UP, whose kith and kin have been missing, too have landed up in Nithari village in search of clues about them. Parents, whose children were sexually abused and murdered in the house, have parked themselves near the house, desperately searching for more answers as police dug out remains of more children and women from the house.

The remains of the bodies recovered have been sent for forensic tests at Agra and Hyderabad, but it’s an agonising wait for those around Nithari village whose children have been missing for the past two years.

DAY IN PICS

Police presence has been beefed up in the area after angry residents protested. Residents of Noida’s Nithari village clashed with the police on Monday. Parents are angry over the manner in which the case is being handled.

Clothes and other belongings recovered from the basement of the house have been kept at the Sector 20 police station for identification.

By evening, angry villagers were fighting pitched battles in the narrow lanes of Nithari as they took out their anger on the police for their alleged failure to act on the numerous cases of missing children.

The villagers were also angry over the manner in which police had conducted the investigations into the killing of 17 children.

"My son has been missing. I have been to the police and they have simply said that he might have gone away with some relative. How can a nine year old do that? The police threw his picture. We have been looking for him but no luck. I heard that bones of children were being found here. So I came to see..." Meena Mandal, mother of a missing child, told CNN-IBN.

People protesting outside the house were a glaring example of the negligence at the local police station level over the scores of missing cases registered with the police. However, the police officers busied themselves with damage control and ground arrangements for the expected visits of senior officers and bureaucrats.

Noida SSP, RKS Rathore, said the situation is now under control. “The guilty will be punished,” he said. But as the law is taking its course, Nithari, not surprisingly, is still seething with anger.

"There are certain people who just want to create panic and law-and-order problem. So, we will definitely take strict action against them. And if they are having any problem, they can tell us. We are already doing our job. We have arrested those criminals. We are taking strict action against them," Rathore said.

The police have, meanwhile, searched the Noida Medicare Centre, which is also in Sector 31, Noida. The police also detained a woman called Maya, who used to work as a maid and was allegedly instrumental in bringing women into the house.

As more body parts were dug out from around the house, the villagers and parents of the victims have alleged that there could be an organ trade angle to the case.

UP DGP Bua Singh, who visited Nithari village, has assured that the role of the Noida SSP will be probed and all the officers responsible for the lapses will be punished. The UP police suspended two more policemen for dereliction of duty on Monday.

UP Home Secretary RM Srivastava and another secretary (Home) AK Sinha are scheduled to visit Nithari shortly. The two-member panel of Sinha and additional director general of police (crime, law and order) AC Sharma is probing into the matter. The panel is to submit its report within the next two days.

The main accused in the case, Moninder Singh and his servant Satish, have been sent to 10 days’ police remand and the court has ordered a narco-analysis test on both..

Meanwhile, the serial killing issue is fast acquiring political overtones. "We demand a CBI inquiry into the deaths," said BSP President Mayawati.

With the Opposition moving fast to corner the government by making it a law and order issue, the state government has swung into action. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of each of the victims.
