A 50-year-old man, who was opposed to the love affair between a youth from a different caste and his relative, shot dead the youth’s aunt and father at Avathi village in Mallandur police limits Chikmagalur district on Wednesday night. The man was also killed by the youth and his relatives on the spot.
Chikmagalur Superintendent of Police N Shashi Kumar told reporters on Thursday that one Lohit of Kasage village was in love with a girl, who was a relative of Ajje Gowda of Bygoor village.
When Gowda came to know of the relationship, he locked Lohit up in a room on Wednesday night with the help of his relatives Naveen, Rame Gowda and Pradeep. They also threatened Lohit not to see the girl again.
However, Lohit escaped from the confinement, and went to Avathi village. Immediately, Gowda along with the three others rushed to the village, carrying his double barrel gun, and started abusing Lohit. In the heat of the moment, Gowda fired at Lohit’s aunt Sudha, who got the bullet on the chest and died. Gowda then shot dead Lohit’s father Rama Shetty.
An enraged Lohit and his uncles attacked Gowda with lethal weapons, killing him on the spot. Naveen, Rame Gowda and Praveen fled the spot, the SP said.
Police arrested Moganna Shetty, Thammanna Shetty, Sannappa Shetty and Lohit for Gowda’s murder, and are on the look-out for Naveen, Rame and Praveen.
