New Delhi: Actor Nandita Das and Naseeruddin Shah were in the Capital on Tuesday to promote Nandita's directorial debut Firaaq .
One of the most credible actors in Bollywood, Naseeruddin Shah will not be seen on the big screen for a while. The veteran is not taking on any new film projects and is focusing on theatre now.
When asked what he had to say about Nandita's directorial skills Naseer joked, "She was horrible, she showed me how to walk like an old man."
Going with humourous tone Nandita said, "Is their a Gita or a Quran that he can swear on, so that he speak the truth?".
Set in 2002, with the Godhra riots as its backdrop, Firaaq also stars heavyweight actors such as Paresh Rawal and Deepti Naval. The movie has already won several accolades including best first film of a director at the Asian Film Festival, but both Nandita and Naseer believe, success at the Box Office is crucial.
"Off course I want it to reach as many people as possible , it's is very important," she said.
"It is very important that the film reaches out to people because one of the main reason for the failure of the art movies in the 70's was that it did not reach to people it was intended for," explained Naseer.
And after Firaaq it might be some time before you get to see Naseer on the big screen, as the veteran has decided to concentrate on theatre for now.
"Yes well I have decided not to take over any more projects. Even if it is something very exciting, not for at least six months. I can't do item numbers for producers," he said.
Now that is bad news for his Bollywood fans but a good one for those who love theatre.
