Internet, Rahul's new way of reaching workers

New Delhi: Noor, a Youth Congress leader from Bihar has certainly learnt the magic words and his talent in moving the mouse as briskly as possible may even win him a Congress ticket.

Rahul Gandhi will call the shots in ticket distribution and for the Youth Congress worker, the best selection criterion is being net-savvy.

"It helps us reach him (Rahul Gandhi), write to him," says Noor.

But the problem starts here. Noor is from Bihar and he is among the 250 Youth Congress enthusiasts who have come down to Congress headquarters, but Noor is also racing against time. He has two months to master the skill and then head home where a computer is out of reach. And with Bihar's power problems, he may lose out in the race for power.

Congress Secretary, Alka Lamba says, "It's a difficult task, but we can find a way out."

Rahul Gandhi has been trying his hand at laptop politics from the Uttar Pradesh elections. Some would say he's travelling late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's path but the fact remains that the laptop has as yet failed to impact on his party's performance.

The scion of the Gandhi family has fiercely fought for representation of youth and while it's fine to insist on making them computer savvy, in the rough and tumble of Indian politics, one has to wait and see whether this view from afar will work.
