New Delhi: On Thursday, after one more day of grilling by income tax and enforcement directorate investigators, Lalit Modi tried to put up a brave face and even went to meet one of India's most power businessman and owner of Mumbai Indian, Mukesh Ambani.
It now seems that the investigators are slowly tightening the noose on IPL chief and his alleged front man - a former bureaucrat turned media-owner in Rajasthan who has come under the scanner.
In addition to that also the allegation that Modi bought a private aircraft and a yatch from a company in Iceland whose paid-up capital of just $ 100 is being looking into by the authorities.
It is being alleged that Modi's clout with former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje facilitated the entry of big builders in Rajasthan.
The I-T department is also scanning controversial deals like the World Trade Park and IT corridor near Jaipur, where land was given at throwaway prices to benefit big builders.
Meanwhile, the intelligence officials are closely monitoring the betting that is taking place on IPL.
The betting on IPL games is estimated to generate between Rs 25,000 crore and Rs 40,000 crore a year from India.
Punters use online betting sites such as the UK-based Bet365, Ladbrokes, Victor Chandler, Paddypower, William Hill, Betfair, BetClick, and BlueSquare to place their bets.
They also place their bets from illegal betting rooms in various cities that feed a master betting room in Dubai
In Dubai, betting is controlled by the underworld and the cash generated is black money which might be feeding narcotic-crime syndicates, especially those controlled by Dawood Ibrahim.
Amount of bets placed on IPL games run as high as Rs 1,000 crore per match. All the betting sites accept Indian registration and some even have rupee accounts.
