New Delhi: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has scrapped all future Olympic torch relays. The torch relay for both the Winter and Summer Games will now be confined to inside the boundaries of the host countries.
IOC took the decision after the controversy-ridden journey of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Relay.
The Committee says that the decision is applicable from the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Already organisers of both the 2012 London Olympics and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games have decided not to take the torch overseas.
Protests had dogged the relay as it made its way from Olympia in Greece to Beijing.
Attempts were made on many occasions by Tibet supporters to disrupt the relay.
The torch relay in India took place amidst heavy security in New Delhi on April 17 last year.
CNN-IBN's Chief Sports Correspondent Digvijay Singh Deo was the only journalist invited to run the Olympic Torch Relay.
