Chennai: Chennai Super Kings were sitting pretty at the top until Monday when Mumbai Indians pushed them to second position with a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but the two-time IPL champions will be determined to reclaim their top position with a win at home against bottom-dwellers Delhi Daredevils on Tuesday.
With just pride to play for, Delhi can only hope to finish the season on a high but Chennai would be looking for a win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to gain momentum going into the play-offs.
With ten victories and four losses so far in the campaign, CSK on paper seem to be enjoying a good IPL having amassed eight straight victories at one point in the competition, but heavy losses at the hands of Mumbai and Rajasthan recently showed that they are beatable.
Delhi, on the other hand, have not got anything right except for their two wins at Raipur and one at home against Mumbai out of the 13 games they have played. Despite boasting of bowlers like Morne Morkel, Umesh Yadav, Ashish Nehra and Ajit Agarkar, Delhi have failed miserly to combine as a unit. The same can be said about the batting department. The terrible batting form of Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag has been a major reason for the team's predicament.
Playing nearly half of their games on the slow Kotla track with a pace bowling artillery has added to Delhi's woes but names like Sehwag and David Warner still make Delhi an outfit capable enough to upset Chennai.
For CSK, Michael Hussey and Suresh Raina have led the charge with the bat scoring eight fifties between them, and their bowling department has done a commendable job as well with the likes of Mohit Sharma, Dwayne Bravo, R Ashwin and Chris Morris all doing their bit for the team's cause. Sharma has been the most impressive uncapped bowler by miles this season and has contributed immensely with the ball.
But an upset on the cards cannot be ruled out looking at the big names Delhi have at their disposal, but a clinical CSK will be the favourites in their own backyard.
