New Delhi: Iran moved a step closer towards joining the Nuclear club, as it switched on its Russian built nuclear reactor for the first time on Wednesday.
Scientists at Iran's Bushehr plant conducted the first series of tests in which substitute fuel rods, loaded with lead instead of enriched uranium were used to stimulate nuclear fuel.
Officials said the next test will use enriched uranium, but it was unclear when the test would be held or when the facility would become fully operational
The construction of the 1000 megawatt plant Bushehr plant had started way back in 1974 but was halted several times due to various reasons.
