Iran N-negotiators brush off Bush's comments

Aneesh Raman, CNN

Tehran: Iran's top nuclear negotiator has brushed off George Bush's comments that Tehran remains a danger.

Top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili said he hoped that American spooks would soon declare that Iran never had a nuclear weapons programme.

He was reacting to a US National Intelligence Estimate report that said Iran had stopped working towards nuclear weapons in 2003.

Jalil applauded the US for correcting its intelligence and its implications about what Iran was going to do with its nuclear programme.

Other Iranian officials said that this amounted to US confession.

Interestingly, one has yet to hear on the issue from Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who often seizes these moments to rally against the West.

It seems that at the moment, Iran is lying low and the reason why is that it wants Russia and China to digest this report.

Those are two countries with veto powers on the United Nations Security Council, the same council where US, Russia and France are looking for a third round of sanctions on Iran by the end of this year. That, however, now seems in doubt.
