New Delhi: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has called the North Korea nuclear disarmament agreement a positive start.
North Korea has agreed to take steps toward nuclear disarmament under a six-party agreement that will bring around $ 300 million aid to Pyongyang.
Under the provisions of the deal, North Korea is required initially only to freeze a major nuclear site and allow in UN inspectors, but eventually the country will have to reveal the full extent of its atomic program, dismantle all its nuclear facilities and give up its nuclear arms.
Condoleezza Rice says that the North Korea disarmament should be seen as a message to Iran.
"Why shouldn't it be seen as a message to Iran that the international community is able to bring together its resources, particularly when regionally affected states work together and that the strong diplomacy and the cohesiveness of the five-party and the six-party talks has finally achieved results," she says.
