New Delhi: Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister was injured in the stomach and shoulder in an attack in Baghdad on Friday.
Iraqi police said a suicide bomber blew himself up as Salam al-Zubaie left a mosque after Friday prayers.
He is undergoing surgery at a US military hospital and his condition was described as not stable. Three others were killed and at least 10 injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, a rocket landed near Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's office on Thursday, where UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was making a speech. Ban was unharmed as he managed to duck behind the podium.
The attack came as Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government said it had been negotiating with Sunni insurgents for months, and the US military said that it had released a senior aide to Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr on al-Maliki's request.
It struck right after al-Maliki, standing next to Ban, had finished telling reporters that Ban's visit was a sign that Iraq was on the road to stability.
