Click to play videoNew Delhi: Naba, a five-year-old Iraqi girl, has recently undergone a limb lengthening surgery in Chennai.
Standing at 84 cm or 2 feet 7 inches, she was diagnosed with
achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that causes dwarfness.
Doctors in Iraq told her parents that Naba would grow no taller than 3 feet 8 inches. And that is when they turned to Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital.
“We have been able to lengthen her from 84 cm to a ht of now 12 cm more in her legs and 3.5 cm more in her hands,” says Dr Sivamurugar who operated on Naba.
Naba will have to undergo another surgery at the age of 10 to gain height upto 5 feet.
“Doctors in Iraq advised me to go to India that is why we came here. We have got Naba's operation done and we are very happy. I have to say thanks to India and thanks to the doctors here,” says Naba’s father, Ahmed.
Naba will be discharged from the hospital in two to three months time.
