Big B misusing name for ends?

CNN-IBN

Could you believe that Amitabh Bachchan was a farmer? The Faizabad court has refused to believe this and has struck off two acres of land which was allotted to the Big B in Barabanki, UP.

The Faizabad Additional Commissioner (Administration) Vidhya Sagar on Friday ruled that the allotment of the land to Bachchan was illegal.

Bachchan has also been charged with submitting forged documents to prove his credentials as a farmer.

So, did Amitabh Bachchan misuse his position by claiming to be a farmer? Face The Nation asked a panel comprising Chief Spokesperson of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) Akhilesh Pratap Singh.

Nothing to Celebrate

Bachchan is not a farmer confirmed a Faizabad court and upheld the decision to strike down his land allotment in Barabanki.

Disagreeing that his party was already celebrating the fact that the Big B's might is collapsing, Singh said that no political party celebrated the victory or loss of any person from the entertainment world, so being a national level party, the Congress was certainly not celebrating.

However, he insisted that Bachchan should make his position clear before the people of India. He should let the nation know whether there was a case of forgery or not, and if yes, why had he stooped to those means.

Political Vendetta

Declining that the Congress party would use this verdict to further embarrass its arch-rival Mulayam Singh Yadav - given the proximity that Bachchan has with him - Singh said that the people of India were watching it all and that the court was looking into his credibility.

"There is no need of the party to do anything," he added.

Singh also stressed on the fact that his party used to say that Bachchan was carrying on a false ad campaign for Samajwadi Party and that this verdict would help to expose anything else that the Big B had done for personal benefit being close to Mulayam Singh Yadav.

He went on to taunt Bachchan for doing the forgery saying it was a petty thing to do for a few acres considering he is one of the greatest actors in the country.

No Discrimination

Reacting to the argument that the Amitabh Bachhan incident was just a part of the joint crackdown by the Congress and BSP against persons close to Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh, Singh said that the courts have only taken action against the persons for their illegal activities.

"Be it Amar Singh, Anil Ambani, Mulayam Singh Yadav or Amitabh Bachchan, either the Supreme Court or the High Court would have taken cognizance of the issue and neither the Central Government nor the newly-elected Mayawati government have taken any discriminatory action. So, it cannot be said that any discriminatory actions have been taken," he said.

Matter of Greed

Then there is also the fact that Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan is trying to use the certificate of being a farmer in Uttar Pradesh to buy land in Pune, Maharashtra.

Most fans of the superstar agreed that he was not a farmer by far, and said that he was just stretching his acting into real life.

While some of his fans said that it was greed which had led Big B to do what he did, others suggest that he was looking to join politics in the future and that by declaring himself a farmer, he was simply practicing vote bank politics.

Be a Farmer First

Though most of his fans said that the verdict of the Faizabad court would not affect the Big B's image adversely, some wanted him to go to the field first to sow seeds and then lay claim to being a farmer.

In his ad campaign for the SP, Bachchan said, “UP mein hai dum, kyunki jurm hai yahan kam (UP is great as there is less crime in the state)”.

However, today it seems as if it is the superstar himself who is on the other side of that jurm (crime) divide.
