New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reshuffled key ministries on Wednesday. Is it a veiled warning to ministers like CP Joshi, Kamal Nath and Murli Deora?

This was the first reshuffle since the UPA returned to power in May 2009.

CP Joshi, Kamal Nath and Murli Deora – the three cabinet ministers whose portfolios changed for different reasons.

Murli Deora's long stint as petroleum minister ended due to his alleged proximity to a corporate house.

But then why has he been given the corporate affairs ministry.

CP Joshi's track record as rural affairs minister didn't win him too many fans. Why has he been shifted to roads and transport?

Kamal Nath's name appeared in the Radia tapes, so why was he shifted from road and highways to urban development.

"I have to figure out and understand new responsibility,” said Murli Deora.

The prime minister’s office is trying to defend these decisions - as simple first steps an attempt to caution those who are facing a trust deficit but its a defence not acceptable to most.

"This is reflective of a nervous breakdown within the Congress party,’ said Vinod Sharma.

The duo too has much to answer for in terms of reasons for their portfolio changes...many are also asking why did the prime minister and Sonia Gandhi meet seven times to come up with this reshuffle.

Perhaps the final act of this reshuffle episode will be played out when the Congress decides to ring in changes in the AICC set up soon.
