New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Ganhdi has finally agreed to play a more proactive role in the party and government. Congress sources say he could be elevated to the working president's post and made a core group member but Rahul may shy away from joining the government just as yet.

After playing hide and seek after the UP poll debacle, the Yuvraj of Congress says he is ready to play a bigger role in the party. The timing has to be decided by Prime Minister Mnamohan Singh and UPA Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Sources, however, say Rahul may not join the government yet, preferring to concentrate on the party. He may either be appointed working president of the Congress or made a core group member.

With less than 2 years left to go for Lok Sabha polls and Congress facing an image crisis, experts feel that an active Rahul Gandhi could do some damage control.

In recent times, Rahul was given an important role in key decisions when Sonia was away for medical treatment but he did not latch on to the opportunity to take control.

The Congress, however, feels that in its bad times he could still offer the ray of hope.
