New Delhi: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who is now a Rajya Sabha MP, has been allotted a government bungalow in Tughlaq Lane. Tendulkar's official residence will be opposite 12 Tughlaq Lane, the house of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

While the Home Ministry has ordered that Tendulkar be provided with Z plus security during his stay in New Delhi, that he be guarded by 50 security men and 2 escort vehicles, there are rumours that the bungalow allotted to Tendulkar is jinxed.

5, Tughlaq Lane was previously occupied by former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma and former Haryana chief minister Bansi Lal's son Surender Singh. Ironically, both of them died in accidents.

Is Tendulkar\'s Tughlaq Lane bungalow jinxed?

5, Tughlaq Lane was previously occupied by Sahib Singh Verma and Surender Singh; both of them died in accidents.

While Sahib Singh Verma expired on June 30, 2007 in a car accident on the Jaipur-Delhi Highway (NH-8), Surender Singh, along with noted industrialist OP Jindal, died when the chopper carrying them went down near Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on March 31, 2005.

Also, the bungalow has memories of Sahib Singh Verma and it remained with the family for over a decade. The house has large wooden doors of Verma's ancestral home, which is on Delhi-Haryana border. Besides, there's a bullock cart and a hut inside the bungalow. It is said that when Sahib Singh was alive, he used to meditate inside the hut.

The bungalow also has a cowshed where the family rears cows, and is similar to those seen in villages bordering Delhi and Haryana. Vikram Verma was expecting to be re-elected for the Rajya Sabha later this year. However, Vikram is now ready to vacate the bungalow for Tendulkar.

Special provision for Little Master

A first time Member of Parliament is allotted a Type 5 or Type 6 accommodation. However, due to security reasons, special exception was made for Tendulkar. He has been allotted a Type 7 bungalow, which is spread over 7,000 square feet, has big lawns and five spacious bedrooms. The bungalow will be done up before the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, when Tendulkar is said to debut his political innings.

Big Bungalow for Rekha too

Sources say Rekha denied a flat offered to her by the Rajya Sabha House committee in a multi-storied building in North Avenue, New Delhi. It is provided to first-time MPs and is located near Mandi House area, which has prominent landmarks like Lalit Kala Academy and Sahitya Kala Academy. Now, Rekha would be allotted a bungalow near Balwant Rai Mehta Lane, near Mandi House, and is currently occupied by Ram Das Aggarwal, a BJP MP.
