Brazilian goalkeeper Michel Alves has seen his stardom rise dramatically over the past 24 hours after he scored an embarrassing own goal.
The 31-year-old's new-found fame comes from one of the most embarrassing clangers during Criciuma's defeat to America Mineiro on Saturday, and it will be a moment Alves will never be able to escape.
After saving a straightforward shot from the opposition forward Fabio Junior, Alves lost balance as he got up and the ball spilled from his hands and into the goal. It was a moment of trembling hesitation that cost his team 0-4 loss at home.
