Ahmedabad: After IPS officer Girish Singhal, the CBI has now arrested two more police officers in the Ishrat Jahan alleged fake encounter case. Former deputy superintendent of police Tarun Barot and former inspector JG Parmar, both of whom are already in judicial custody in the alleged Sadik Jamal fake encounter case, are the latest Gujarat police officers facing trial in the fake encounter case.
IPS officers DG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian and NK Amin are already in custody in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter cases.
The CBI is also examining the role of former Joint Commissioner of Police PP Pande and former Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police KR Kaushik.
Activists like Teesta Setalvad claim they stand vindicated. Most encounter cases have now been transferred to the CBI, following petitions filed by the family members.
An initial Gujarat police inquiry had termed the encounters genuine.
