Israel, Palestine to carry on dialogue

CNN-IBN | Updated Jun 20, 2007 at 02:30am IST

New Delhi: On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Jerusalem for the second time in a month.

The talks were overshadowed by Abbas's power-sharing deal with Hamas, which refuses to recognise Israel.

A Palestinian government of National Unity is expected to be announced in the coming days.

However, even as the meeting went on, al-Qaeda's number two leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri criticised Hamas for agreeing to form a national unity government.

An audio recording of the message was broadcast by al-Jazeera satellite channel on Sunday.
