IT Conclave: Salman Rushdie's session postponed

New Delhi: Author Salman Rushdie's literary session at the India Today Conclave has been postponed by a day to Saturday following a sudden change in schedule, the organisers said.

The organisers refused to cite any specific reason for the change and said the session would be open for select invitees only.

Tight security arrangements are in place here to prevent any trouble during the visit of Salman Rushdie, the controversial author of "The Satanic Verses", police said Friday.

Rushdie participation in the two-day conclave that started Friday at a five-star hotel here, comes barely two months after he had to cancel his visit to the Jaipur Literature Festival due to threats.

"We have deputed proper security to avoid any trouble," a police officer told IANS. He declined to give details.

The Man Booker prize winner earlier visited India in 2000 for a Commonwealth writers' forum, and the Jaipur Literature Festival in 2007. In Jaipur, several Muslim groups protested his participation at the literary festival, leading to cancellation of his visit.
