Hyderabad: The Indian IT sector might just be on the threshold of a new boom. NASSCOM is in the process of finding a new base of clientele for the IT companies.
Technology, machinery and labour – this is what it takes to make a car. But NASSCOM, the country's premier organisation for the software industry, says these manufacturing units would soon use Information Technology at all levels. NASSCOM claims it would change the face of the automobile and IT sectors.
NASSCOM Vice President Rajdeep Sharawat says, “The study we are doing is in two broad phases – to understand the challenges of IT adoption by the auto component SME manufacturers, then using that output, we want to create a set of action plan."
Besides generating more revenues, the new clientele would also increase manpower requirements of IT companies. More importantly the IT solutions for manufacturing sector would not require highly trained software professionals.
Just the basic computer education will do. NASSCOM's study would be over by December 2006. The big IT companies are looking forward to it.
Satyam Computers Chairman Ramalinga Raju says, “Companies that have used process-oriented and technology-oriented approach to things have benefited and that is recognised in the market place and more and more companies would like to demonstrate that capability."
But now the cost would not be a problem. Manufacturers having similar IT needs could come in a cluster to buy IT solutions or products. After automobile components, the same model would then be replicated in other clusters like steel, textiles and leather.
