It was antics all the way in Hollywood

New Delhi: The year 2006 kick-started with the birth of baby Suri, planting the permanently grinning TomKat firmly in spotlight.

But in August, a poor run of Mission Impossible 3 and Tom's earlier couch jumping antics got him booted out of the Paramount camp, ending a 13-year-old partnership.

The actor quickly signed up with United Artists, and capped the year with with 'the wedding of the year' in Italy.

Giving baby Suri competition for the top spot was Brangelina's May born daughter Shiloh Nouvel.

And by October, Jolie was in India with Pitt and children in tow to shoot for the film A Mighty Heart.

She dodged the paparazzi for a month before obliging for an interview, but left with with a huge fracas between her bodyguards, some angry parents and an unrelenting media.

Other high profile unions this year include Nicole Kidman's wedding to Australian singer Keith Urban, and Pamela Anderson's tie up with rocker Kidd Rock.

Pamela's wedded bliss ended in less than four months. Also landing in splitsville was Britney Spears who dumped Kevin Federline eight weeks after she had her second baby.

Reese Witherspoon won her first Oscar this year for playing June Cash, and subsequently divorced her husband of seven years Ryan Phillipe citing irreconciliable differences. Same reasons were given by Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson for splitting up.

The musical galaxy lost one of its crazy diamonds with Syd Barett's death. The Pink Floyd guitarist died in June this year.

The year belonged to Shakira as she swivelled her way to the top of the international music charts.

Madonna made sure she made headlines by adopting a Malawian boy after a long drawn court battle. And Robbie Williams upheld the MTV awards tradition of producing shockers by mooning his mexican fans.

Amongst the celluloid giants of this year, the Da Vinci Code stands out loud and controversial with certain Christian groups demanding a ban on the film world over.

Superman returned as Brandon Routh while Bond went blonde with Daniel Craig proving everyone wrong and steering the slick Casino Royale to the top of the charts.

And rounding off the year was The Departed, another dream run by the Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Di Caprio partnership.

Heavy weights lined up for next year are the fifth installemnt in the Potter series where Harry gets his first kiss, and a black-suited spiderman with an alien connection in Spiderman 3.
