Patna/New Delhi: Despite its worst-ever performance in Bihar, the Congress is in total denial, insisting that Rahul Gandhi led an effective campaign in the state.
Reacting to the results of the Bihar Assembly polls 2010 on Wednesday, Bihar Congress spokesperson Premchand Mishra said that the loss was a rejection of RJD Chief Lalu Yadav not the Congress party.
The Congress spokesperson said there is a need of state leadership and the party has future if not this time then later.
"State level leadership is needed. We can't match ourselves with Nitish Kumar and Lalu Yadav. This election was between them and choice was between the two of them. It's a rejection of Lalu Yadav not the Congress party. We have future if not this time then later," says Mishra.
"Minus effective organisational structure you cannot win any wickets. We are on a poor wicket there that's the real problem we are facing for so many years in Bihar," says the Congress spokesperson.
Moreover, Congress leader Mukul Wasnik on Wednesday took the responsibility of loss in Bihar assembly polls 2010.
"I take the responsibility of loss in Bihar," says Mukul Wasnik.
"The situation in Bihar was not easy for the Congress. Despite that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi gave time for Bihar campaign, it did inspire people and Congress leadership in Bihar," says the Congress leader.
Mukul Wasnik believes that the Congress party did not made a mistake to go alone.
"All issues that go into making of an election we will have to assess. We don't believe that we have made a mistake to go alone," says Wasnik.
"We handled the Bihar campaign well. We will have to read into the results. We had decided to go alone this time."
