New Delhi: Imran Siddiqui walked out after a tearful re-union with cousin-in-law Haneef. When he handed over to Haneef a photograph of his new-born daughter, seeing her for the first time, an overwhelmed Haneef couldn’t stop the tears.
“I think those were tears of joy when he saw his daughter and he was telling that a few features are like him and most of them are like his mother,” said Siddiqui.
Siddiqui who spent an hour with the doctor said Haneef was a little uncomfortable at the thought of a relative seeing him behind bars.
“I didn't tell him that we believe he's innocent, I told him that we all know he's innocent and I told him the family's with him all through, and we're doing whatever we can, our level best,” said Siddiqui.
This was Haneef's first meeting with a family member since his detention three weeks ago.
In Bangalore, Firdaus, Haneef's wife, was glad her husband was no longer alone in Australia.
“It’s relief for the family that someone is there. Imran will be there till Haneef is released,” said Firdous.
Meanwhile, the Indian government says it's now helping the family get legal assistance.
